Looking to buy a game console? Then you’ve probably been thinking about which system to get. After all, all three major players have something to offer the serious gamer. How are you supposed to choose?

Loooking closer at each system, we can learn a lot. Each has its own merits and downfalls. At the end, I’ll talk about how to choose among these systems.

First up, the Wii. When the Wii broke onto the market, it completely changed the world of gaming. People who had never played games before loved the Wii. Grandmothers, wives, girlfriends: they are all playing video games for the first time.

This is no surprise: the Wii is a blast! The tilt and position detecting controller of the Wii offers a completely different type of game play. Quite an amazing system. The Wii is not as great on the graphics, so if you’re into richly detailed shooters, the Wii isn’t your system.

The PS3 laughs at these problems. This system pulls out all the performance stops, giving the best graphics possible. Games look gorgeous on the PS3. It also has some of the hottest franchises in games available for it, further broadening the appeal.

High end graphics are also provided by the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 provides good performance with an ever growing library of games. It comes in several system configurations that give you different levels of functionality out of the box. It also has large 3rd party support. If it’s Xbox 360 accessories you’re looking for, you will not be disappointed.

To choose between all of these consoles, it’s all about the games. Most people like the games offered by one particular system more than others. If you want games with a totally new style of play, get a Wii. If you like Japanese franchises, most are on the PS3. If you like shooters, the Xbox 360 controller makes these a blast to play. Figure out what you like to play, and work from there.
