Writing an Xbox 360 game review can be fun, but there are some simple guidelines that you need to follow in order to make your review successful.   The first thing you want to do is know your target audience.  An Xbox 360 game review will be written in different styles depending on who the audience for your review is.  Users of the Xbox 360 game system range in age from the very young all the way to the very old, so keep this in mind when writing your Xbox 360 game review.   If you have a review for younger kids, try to keep the review simple so that they or their parents can explain to them what the game is all about and what benefits and features it has that are relevant.  If it is a game designed for more mature players, you probably will want to say that and slant your review accordingly.   One example of this would be an Xbox 360 game review for games that are extremely violent.  A review for children would probably put the game in an unfavorable light, while one for adults or teens may view the game very favorably.  Again, your audience plays a huge role in determining how you review a game.

What games to review?

Choosing which games to write your Xbox 360 game review about can be a tricky decision.  When you first start out it is probably best to pick a game you are very familiar with so you can write an in depth review.  I would not do an Xbox 360 HD DVD review as more than likely a review will be out somewhere else.  As you get better at writing Xbox 360 game reviews you can move on to newer games and titles that you are less familiar with.   Also, at first I would avoid writing about controversial games and stick to titles that can be played be a wide audience.  Sports games are great for this.  In addition, many sports titles are built around the same player control engine year after year so your reviews do not have to change much as new titles come out.  My suggestion would be to find a sports game that you like to start your Xbox 360 game review off.  If you are not a fan of sports titles, perhaps then you may want to look at a children’s game or a game that can be played by children.  For the Xbox, the Halo series of games has long been fun for a wide variety of players.  Try there and I am sure you can find something you will enjoy.  So in conclusion, the thing to do when writing Xbox 360 game review  is to know your target audience and review games you enjoy, if you do that are sure you will find writing the reviews enjoyable and satisfying.

Right now there are three of the so called next generation gaming consoles on the market for you to choose from – the Nintendo Wii, the Playstation 3, and the Xbox 360.   I have used and written about both the Wii and the Playstation, so now it is time for the Xbox 360 review.

Xbox 360 – An In Depth Look

Out of the box the Xbox 360 is a far cry from its predecessor.  The original Xbox was big, black and clunky looking.  The new unit is anything but.  It is far smaller, although not as small as the Wii or Playstation, and white in color.  For the first part of the Xbox 360 review I give it a 7 out of 10 for appearance.

While appearance for some people is important, if you are a hardcore gamer this is probably the least important thing.  So let’s dive down into the next part of the Xbox 360 review and look at the games that are available.  This is not an Xbox 360 game review, but rather a look at the titles you can get.  The first thing that stands out for this Xbox 360 review is that the Xbox is the only system that you can get Halo for.  While it has been ported to PC, the game play on the console is far superior.  The Halo series is perhaps my favorite of all time and this is a big plus in favor of the Xbox.  While the single player is fun, this game truly shines with the multiplayer options, but I will get into that in the next section.  For game titles I this Xbox 360 review gives the system a 9 out of 10.

The next thing that is really important when you get a gaming is system is the multi player options.  The original Xbox blew its competition out of the water, and while Playstation and the Wii are catching up the Xbox 360 is still leading the pack.  You can find games easily; get content, and almost all of the games released for the system offer multiplayer support.  The Xbox 360 review score for its multi player is a 10 out of 10.  I find it hard to believe that they could improve on this much.

The Xbox 360 in my mind is the best system if you are looking for online action.  It does not have the fun aspect of the Wii and most of the games are more adult in flavor.   The Wii owns the market in fun, interactive games.   For non online adult games the Playstation 3 might have a slight edge, but if it does it is very slight and the Xbox 360 can keep up with in almost every regard.

There are some new things available for Xbox 360 live that you are going to want to know about.  First off is the separation of Xbox 360 live into two separate services – silver and gold.  I am going to take a look at both of these Xbox 360 live services so that you can have a better understanding of which service to go with.

Xbox 360 Live – Silver

The Gold service has many features that make it an awesome way to game online.   First up is how your online avatar is displayed to the world.  Each account can set up a different “motto” which will be displayed to other gamers online.  In addition your account will keep a record of you achievements that you earn during game play.  You can also link this back to your Facebook account so that people will see updates of your achievements.   Each account has a unique username that is also displayed to all the other gamers.  As you play more and more you build up a reputation.  If players like playing with you they can vote on you in a positive light.  As this builds up you will find it easier and easier to get games.  In addition, it will become easier to avoid bad players or players with a bad attitude.

Your Gamerscores keep track of all of you total player achievement points.   You also can build a friends list which will list all of your chosen friends.  You can have up to a hundred people on this list.  It will also let you know when any of your friends come online.  There is also a recent player list which will list the last 50 players that you have played with.

Sometimes all you need to do to solve a problem is think in the simplest terms and remember that it does not need to say Microsoft on it for it to be effective.

Microsoft is very good at knowing what markets they can be successful in and what markets they should avoid.  Usually when Microsoft gets into a new market they tend to take over, become a market leader, and start dictating what direction the market should go in.  Two markets that Microsoft stepped in and dominated when it looked like they had no business being in either one of them was the networking software market and the video game console market.
